Starting a Fashion Business from Scratch

Thursday 21st March | 09:30 – 13:30

From picture-perfect editorials to glamorous catwalk events, the lure of the fashion world is hard to resist. Yet, the sheer amount of work needed to create those glamorous moments often goes unrecognised. To start a business in fashion, you must think of yourself as a CEO - as business is what you'll be doing for 90% of your time.

In this workshop, we will discuss:
  • The required steps and mindset needed to start a fashion business
  • How to carve your niche, find your USP (unique selling point) and tell your story
  • Growing organically and honing in on your craft
  • Marketing, production and distribution
  • Personal insight into mistakes made and how to learn from them

Prepared and delivered by:

Hazel Aggrey-Orleans is a self-taught designer and founder of the luxury silk print fashion brand, Eki Orleans.

Eki Orleans is a luxury slow fashion brand with an ethical stance. Our pieces have been worn by Hollywood stars, musicians and models. Hazel didn’t come from a fashion background, instead she spent 8 years working in marketing/ production in asset management. It was during her first pregnancy that she decided to find her passion, which happened to be exploring culture and colour. She then married these two up and emerged herself into the world of fashion. Her works have been featured in Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and Tatler. She was stocked in Selfridges and most recently had a piece of hers displayed at St James Palace for Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall prior to their royal visits to Africa.
